Boom!

For the past week or so the Thais have been gearing up for a big celebration. They have been peddling fireworks like crazy. Usually it is bottle rockets and roman candles. Over the past few days they have been ratcheting up the celebrations. Rockets have been screaming skyward and the pop of the rockets heard at the end of the flight. TODAY it is a different story. I noticed today that there were a lot of Thais riding around on their motorbikes carrying a fistful of what look like 4 foot roman candles. But that is not all. Tonight it sounds a lot like war out there. They have brought out the big stuff. I have not seen any public displays but every Thai in the neighborhood seems to have found a cache of high explosives. The booms out there tonight are frequent, deep and thunderous. M-80s and Cherry Booms of my youth do not compare. These bombs have to be huge. The deep booms and concussions sound more like quarter/half sticks of dynamite. We were invited to go out to a local Buddhist Temple where the celebrations are usually centered. We did not go becasue Suda has been working (at a resturant) everyday for the past few days and is really tired. She worked a double Friday and was supposed to be off today but got called in because someone else did not show up. The absent party is probably celebrating some where.
