4 on the floor??

I was riding a really old city bus today.  These things are really patched together with just about anything.  So here is the craziest shifter I have ever seen.  The thing was wobbling all over the place but the driver had no trouble what-so-ever shifting and guiding this heap of nuts and bolts through the busy streets.  See the guy sitting on top of the engine next to the shifter.  I would have to say that the shifter placement was obviously moved.  Perhaps the shifter was originally near the drivers seat.  You think?

Innovation in motorcycling

I mentioned before that when it rains they put up the umbrella to avoid getting wet, even on a motorbike! See this one. http://enorman-thai.blogspot.com/2010/07/rain-put-up-top.html   But now I saw this thingy that they mount on the bike.  It is some sort of shroud.  I have never seen this before.  Some guy probably came up with it and makes them in his back yard. I'll bet it is not U.L approved!

What the heck?

As I have always said you can always find a picture of strange stuff at the market.  Yummy?  I will never know.

KFC

Saw this sign at a KFC.  Not quite the Colonel.  We call it KFC C(K)an't find chicken.  Frequently the store will stop cooking chicken at about 5PM.  We stop by at 7PM and they announce that they are out of chicken today.

Whole chicken. Really!

Yes all the parts come with it.  This particular vendor did not include the feet and head.  Some do.  I'll try to get a picture of that as well.

Durian smelly fruit

Maybe you have heard of this Thai favorite.  It is the worst smelling stuff ever.  Once I was shopping and one of the ladies I was shopping with snuck a packet into the carriage.  I could smell something bad and wondered where the heck the smell was coming from.  As you may  be able to tell is is quite expensive.  This packet ( in the foreground) costs about $7.50.  The fruit grows on trees and is quite spinny.  They say the flavor is great.  I can not get it past my nose.

Boom

This little guy is the chunkiest little Thai baby I have seen.  His name is Boom and he lives nearby my house.  His mom and dad cut up squid, prepare it and sell it at festivals and fairs and stuff.

Meat at the market

Here we see it again.  The meat at the market is NOT refidgerated.  Sometimes there is ice under some of the meat.  The first 3 pics are maybe beef or buffalo.  Notice that the hoof is still there and frequently it is quite dirty (has crap on it).  Notice that there are many "parts" of the animal displayed.  The last picture is a pork shop.  I frequently buy pork at this table.  They have really nice pork tenderloins.  I get a nice little bag of pork tenderloin for about 50 baht ($1.50).

Small Temple

I was out riding my neighbor's bicycle and came across this small temple in a little rural village.  There are litteraly thousands of these temples in Thailand.  Again, click the pictures to get a better look.  Use the back arrow on your browser to go back to the blog.

went to the lake

I took a day out and went to the lake with my friends Patrick and Sue.  See the picture of my fan club (the dogs).  That's Tony, Panda and Pepsi from left to right. Ha! Ha!  What a beautiful day at the lake!

Thai baby stroller?

Grandma takes baby for a walk down the road.

tall chimney at the temple

These buildings in the temples are for cremation of the deceased.  Most people are cremated here.  I have not seen a graveyard.

rocket cushman?

I have seen this little vehicle putting around town before.  It is actually a mosquito fogger.  It looks like a rocket propelled Cushman.

mushrooms at the market

I was at the market today and decided to concentrate on the mushrooms.  There seems to be many many kinds.  These pictures are a sample of what was available today.  Don't forget you can click on the pictures for a closer look.  Use the "back" arrow on explorer to go back to the blog.

Watch where you sit on the bus

I have shown a lot about buses in the past.  I have also talked about having things in the bus you wouldn't expect to be there.  Like I sat with the air intake for the engine in front of me between my seat and the drivers seat. See this link http://enorman-thai.blogspot.com/2010/05/thai-cross-country-buses.html.  This day I was taking an in-town bus and saw a little girl sitting across the isle from me.  I took her picture and a picture of the batteries that she was sitting on.

Rain? Put up the top.

What do you do when it is raining and all you have is a motorcycle?  Use an umbrella of course.

Dogs ride

Dogs frequently ride motorbikes here.  They learn to balance quite well.  Hey where is your helmet?

one grandma power

Saw this old grandma and cart in traffic waiting for the light to change.  She proceeded like she was any other vehicle on the road.  "Hey I want to see license, registration and insurance for that thing!"

Buddha Statue

I was riding my neighbor's bicycle the other day and passed this Buddha along the highway.

Return of Pepsi

Pepsi is back after many months.  He was living with an Uncle and now has come to the lake.  See this link http://enorman-thai.blogspot.com/2009/10/pepsi-helps-wash-car.html to see him the last time I saw him.  He has grown up but has a great disposition and behaves well.  See the bump on his head,  He ran into a barbed wire fence the day this picture was taken.

Bus driving

On one of my latest bus trips I rode one of those buses where the passengers ride way up high.  I like to sit up front so I can see the impact coming.  I had a birds eye view of the driver.  Notice that the instruments do not work.  I have not seen a bus yet with a working speedometer.  Also notice the picture of the road with the sharp turn signs but with road markings (dashed center line) allowing you to pass.  They like to pass on corners.  Especially these big buses.
