Yes they keep the cows under the house when the cows are not out grazing in a field. I found out some more info about the cows. It seems that the Government gave cows to a lot of the rural people. I guess it is a good money maker for a family. They simply let the cows out everyday and bring them back at night. The cows breed and make more. As they get bigger they are sold off to butchers for the market. In some villages I have visited nearly ALL families have cows to supplement the rice farming. When I question the farmers about the cows they simply say that the King gave to cows to them.
